Ustica sape

Reach Ustica… and thought I was a VIP

I had wanted to go to Ustica for years, but was hesitant since I did not know Italian and did not have any living family or friends there. My mind was soon changed when George & Peggy Schloegel (Gulfport, Mississippi USA) pointed out that they had been several times and they did not know Italian but that did not matter because people there could understand English.

My cousin Judy Fallo Myer (New Orleans, Louisiana USA) put us in contact with Pietro Bertucci (Ustica Italy) who was a total stranger that welcomed us as we got off the hydrofoil ferry with a classic Italian family greeting. From then on we felt like we were a family. After checking in to the Hotel Clelia, Pietro took us to meet the Mayor, tle Chief of Police, the desalinator staff and introduced us to everyone we saw. I thought I was a VIP! Pietro gave us a two day tour while explaining the history and archaeology of Ustica.
The island is robust and bursting with greens, reds, yellows, pinks and blues. The terrain is easily accessible even though it’s a volcanic island and we enjoyed breathtaking vistas.
Pietro arranged a boat tour of the island. Salvador, our guide, provided us with a unique tour of several marine caves of unforgettable beauty. The water was so clear; we were told the visible is 70 feet. The colors above and below the water were brilliant turquois and gold. Water was dripping from the ceiling into natural basins within the cave.
We topped off our visit by having a delicious meal at Pietro & Josephine’s home.
We left our new found friends and cannot wait to meet again soon!
Sentirsi benedetti … ciao ,

I colori sopra e sotto l’ acqua erano turchese brillante e oro . L’acqua all’interno delle grotte gocciolava in bacini naturali.
Sentirsi benedetti … ciao ,
