Auguri e ricordi… – San Bartolomeo 2014

San Bartolomeo 2014Today, Ustica celebrates its Patron Saint, St. Bartholomew the Apostle (Bartolomeo).  Following is an email received from Vito Ailara sending greetings to all Usticesi in America on this special occasion.  I’ve copied the Italian version, followed by a rough (google) translation to English.  He also notes the issue of a special new stamp to honor St. Bartolicchio (little Bartholomew) illustrating the small chapel in the Oliastrello that houses the small statue of Bartholomew.  Those of the Lauricella family that traveled to Ustica in 2005 will recall the religious ceremonies “in the country” and the festivities at the old reservoir across the road from the little chapel.

Here is Vito’s message:

Caro Chris, caro Fred, carissimi amici

Vito

Translation:

Dear Chris, dear Fred, dear friends

It approaches the feast of our Patron Saint Bartholomew the Apostle and our thoughts turn to you who are far away, but close in the spirit and affection.
This year then you feel closer than usual because both Ustica and New Orleans are celebrating the Holy same day, one dedicated to him, on August 24. It so happens that for a game of time zones and daylight saving time will participate in the Mass in honor of the saint also at the same time!

And this is BEAUTIFUL, for us and for you.

In addition, we have with us Maria Compagno, who represents all of you.
With these sentiments of sharing, you have my warmest wishes, my family and all officers and members of the Study Centre to which I add an affectionate hug.
Tomorrow, August 23, the Study Centre will celebrate the 10th philatelic service, presenting the postcard and the postmark Annex, dedicated to the chapel of San Bartolicchio dell’Oliastrello, built when the island was struck by a violent tornado that caused damage and injured but there was no casualties among the population was 23 September 1904 and the faithful believed that the patron saint they had been defended and another party dedicated to the saint who is celebrated even today, after 110 years in the chapel built on land made available by Domenico Tranchina.

Best wishes to you, your families, to all members of the San Bartolomeo Society of New Orleans, to usticesi who live in California and the United States and their families.
Vito
