Dear Pietro,
We wanted to thank you again for your kindness when we visited Ustica in September 2025. We had been to Ustica in1997 when our son was 5, and we wanted to share this experience with him as an adult. (And of course we had been wanting to return since we first visited.) It was important to us that Tommy know this part of his heritage, and that he will want to return on his own.
Our stay at the Clelia from September 22-26 was perfect. We really like this hotel and feel at home there. (Of course, there are quite a few nice hotels to choose from, I don’t think you can make a bad choice.) When we visited in 1997 Fabio connected us with several relatives, as well as scheduled an appointment for me to research civil records. I’m a librarian and it was meaningful to be able to access the archives. I remember Angela well!
On this visit we had dinner each of the 4 nights in a different restaurant, and we were surprised by the number of excellent choices. (There were only a handful of restaurants when we visited in 1997.) Memorable meals were pizza at L’isolotto, the new Basilico, and the exceptional Rosso di Sera. We also had snacks and small meals and lunches at various places. Tommy and his girlfriend Alex really enjoyed Carpe Diem for lunch and ate there a few times.
We all took many long hikes each day, sometimes together but usually Tommy and Alex went off on more strenuous hikes and some swims. They also did a boat tour of the grottos with Pepe. They are hikers and really enjoyed the opportunity to be out in such a beautiful environment. The trails are beautifully maintained.
A highlight of our trip was the time we spent with you, including the personal tour you provided! Thank you so much for this.
We are now retired and hope to get back more often. It was not as difficult to get there as it seemed all those years ago. I would encourage anyone interested to just go, if you can. It’s a magical place, and It’s truly special to know that you are surrounded by family. Everyone was so kind; we really felt that we had returned home. We are very eager to return.

Volevamo ringraziarti ancora una volta per la tua gentilezza quando abbiamo visitato Ustica nel settembre 2025. Eravamo stati a Ustica nel 1997, quando nostro figlio aveva 5 anni, e volevamo condividere questa esperienza con lui, ormai adulto. (E ovviamente desideravamo tornarci fin dalla prima visita.) Per noi era importante che Tommy conoscesse questa parte della sua storia e che volesse tornarci da solo.
Il nostro soggiorno al Clelia dal 22 al 26 settembre è stato perfetto. Questo hotel ci è piaciuto molto e ci sentivamo a casa. (Certo, ci sono diversi hotel di qualità tra cui scegliere, non credo che si possa sbagliare). Quando siamo venuti nel 1997, Fabio ci ha messo in contatto con diversi parenti e mi ha anche fissato un appuntamento per la ricerca dei registri di stato civile. Sono una bibliotecaria ed è stato significativo poter accedere agli archivi. Ricordo bene Angela!
Durante questa visita abbiamo cenato ogni sera in un ristorante diverso e siamo rimasti sorpresi dalla quantità di scelte eccellenti. (C’erano solo una manciata di ristoranti quando ci siamo andati nel 1997). Tra i pasti memorabili ci sono la pizza a L’isolotto, il nuovo Basilico e l’eccezionale Rosso di Sera. Abbiamo anche fatto spuntini, piccoli pasti e pranzi in vari posti. Tommy e la sua ragazza Alex hanno apprezzato molto il Carpe Diem per pranzo e ci hanno mangiato un paio di volte.
Abbiamo fatto molte lunghe escursioni ogni giorno, a volte insieme, ma di solito Tommy e Alex facevano escursioni più impegnative e qualche nuotata. Hanno anche fatto un giro in barca delle grotte con Peppe. Sono escursionisti e hanno apprezzato molto l’opportunità di stare all’aria aperta in un ambiente così bello. I sentieri sono ben tenuti.
Un momento clou del nostro viaggio è stato il tempo trascorso con te, incluso il tour personalizzato che ci hai offerto! Grazie mille per questo.
Ora siamo in pensione e speriamo di tornarci più spesso. Arrivarci non è stato così difficile come sembrava tanti anni fa. Incoraggerei chiunque fosse interessato ad andarci, se possibile. È un posto magico, ed è davvero speciale sapere di essere circondati dalla famiglia. Tutti sono stati così gentili; ci siamo sentiti davvero a casa. Non vediamo l’ora di tornarci.
