Recently my mother and I had the pleasure of spending one week in Ustica on vacation.  There were so many memorable moments on our vacation, it would take a couple of pages to list them all.  We loved the hospitality of its citizens, as well as the beauty and history of the island.  If any visitor is reading my comments, I highly recommend the local restaurants. In Ustica there are many good restaurants and  we had not  the pleasure to visit them all, but we’ll try next time. We went only by “il Faraglione”, “Carrubba & Cannella” and to the restaurant at Hotel Giulia.

Our friends Salvatore and Maria Compagna treated us to dinner at Il Faraglione one night.  This elegant restaurant is located right next to the port in the open air.  The views and the food were wonderful.  I enjoyed looking at the boats in the port while eating, and meeting the chef and staff.

On our last night on the island, we ate dinner at Hotel Giulia.  Above is a picture of the pasta con fennel that we ate.  It was delicious.  Giulia was also kind enough to make us a plate of spleen sandwiches, also pictured above.  It was our first time to try a spleen sandwich.  We thought it was delicious.

Before leaving for Palermo, our friends the Canellas took us to lunch at Carruba & Cannella on Via Tre Mulini.  It is a quaint restaurant in the older section of town.  I was excited to see they served pasta alla nero di seppia.  There is a picture of us eating the pasta above.  It was the first time I had tried pasta alla nero di seppia, but I was pleasantly surprised by the good taste.

Now that I am back in California, I miss the wonderful people and cuisine of Ustica.

Mia madre ed io abbiamo recentemente avuto il piacere di visitare una settimana a Ustica in vacanza.  Ci serano tanti moment memorabilia sulla nostra vacanza, ci vorrebe un paio di pagine per elencare tutti.  Apprezziamo l’ospitalita dei suoi cittadini, cosi come la belleza e la storia dell’isola.  Nel  caso qualche turista leggerà il mio commento,  io suggerisco di andare almeno una volta a mangiare al ristorante locale. Noi non abbiamo avuto il piacere di visitarli tutti, ma ci proveremo  la prossima volta. Siamo andati solamente  da “Il Faraglione”, “Carrubba & Cannella” e al Ristorante Giulia.

I nostri amici Salvatore e Maria Campagna ci ha portato a cena presso Il Faraglione una notte. Questo ristorante elegante si trova accanto al porto all’aria aperta. I panorami e il cibo era meraviglioso. Ho apprezzato guardando le barche nel porto mentre si mangia, e incontrare lo chef e il personale.

L’ultima notte sull’isola, abbiamo cenato nel Hotel Giulia. Sopra è una foto della pasta con finocchio che abbiamo mangiato. Era deliziosa. Giulia era anche tanto gentile da farci un piatto di panini con la milza, anche nella foto sopra. Era la nostra prima volta a provare un panino con la milza. Abbiamo pensato che era deliziosa.

Prima di partire per Palermo, i nostri amici la famiglia Cannella ci ha portato a pranzo in Carruba & Cannella in Via Tre Mulini. E un ristorante pittoresco nella parte più antica della città. Ero eccitato all’idea di vedere che servivano pasta alla nero di seppia. C’è una foto di noi mangiare la pasta sopra. Era la prima volta che avevo provato la pasta alla nero di seppia, ma sono rimasto piacevolmente sorpreso dal buon gusto.

Ora che sono tornato in California, mi mancano le persone e la cucina di Ustica meravigliosi.
